Champion-producing stallion from traditional English bloodlines now
standing in America!

Our
Stallion
Ambleside
is
most proud to present the supreme champion-producing grey Fell Pony
stallion Lunesdale
Mercury
at public
stud in North America! Mercury is an exceptional, classic pony and we
could
not be more thrilled to have him as the foundation stallion of
Ambleside Farm. Mercury is a proven stud,
having sired many
high quality
ponies for the reknowned and historical Lunesdale Stud in England for
several years prior to his export to the United States by DreamHayven
Farm. His progeny have been internationally exported and he has sons
that are standing at stud in several countries. We are
privileged to be offering this
outstanding stallion to the North American Fell Pony owners!
There is no doubt that Mercury will continue his tradition of producing
champion-quality offspring in his new home. Please read on
for
more information about Mercury and his available stud services.
About Mercury --
Stallion
Services -- An Historic Family
For
the
Discerning Mare
Owner: Why Mercury?
Progeny, progeny,
progeny! Mercury was a
licensed breeding
stallion for many years prior to his export from the UK. He has proven
through his outstanding foals that he passes on his best qualities, and
his
foals' show ring successes attest to that.
Temperament and Character! Mercury has a temperament and
personality that I, as a trainer, would be glad about in any breed, any
gender! He is a gentleman with a cheerful, engaging personality to pass
on to his foals.
Mercury's pedigree brings uniqueness and depth to
America's
small
Fell
gene pool, offering genetic diversity to a great percentage of mares.
Mercury
has proven
ability
to cross well with many different mare
lines.
At 13H, Mercury is well within the upper breed height
requirement
of
14H.
Color: Mercury can and has produced both grey and
black offspring
with an approximately 50-50 ratio. He also has NO white
markings,
minimizing the possibility of their occurrence in his foals.
Mercury is a son of the multi-champion
grey
stallion Lunesdale Mountain Mist. The Mountain Mist line is repeatedly
known for producing good thinking, working ponies. Mercury's relatives
have done very well in the ring--Mountain Mist himself is an
International Champion pony.
Quality is NO accident!
Mercury shows adherence to type through ample flat bone,
expressive pony
head
with small ears, and correct Fell movement.
Mercury has been shown to be an excellent working pony
himself as
he
has
begun formal training.
Masses of that coveted Fell Pony HAIR! Did you notice his
full
mane in the photos? Even so, there is a large chunk barely visible in
the pictures that has been rubbed off. Once it is in full growth, it
will be even fuller and longer!

Stallion
Services: The
Ambleside Philosophy
Having been on the mare end of the
breeding business time and
again, I have all sympathy for the stress mare-owners
go through when
breeding to an outside stallion!
It is my
goal to make breeding
your
mare to Mercury as comfortable and efficient as possible, with minimal
financial
risk and maximum chance of success.
Mercury will standing to select outside mares beginning in
2008. He
will be available primarily via Artificial Insemination with fresh
cooled semen, but there
will also be the option of live cover for local mares. We hope to
be able to offer the choice of frozen semen later in the season as
well.
Below are listed the stud fees for the 2008 season.
For a
copy of our contract and details about AI or mare care for live cover,

Lunesdale
Mercury: An Historic Family Legacy
More
information
will be coming shortly
for this section. In the
meantime, here are some fascinating articles written by Bert and Carole
Morland of Lunesdale Stud regarding their ponies, many of their most
reknowned being Mercury's relatives.
Fell
Pony Journal Archive: Lunesdale White Rose This is a
wonderful
article about the historic mare, Lunesdale White Rose. White Rose is
Mercury's paternal granddam. This article was first published in the
January 2002 issue as a part of the series "Dams of Distinction." It is
written by Carole Morland. Link opens in new window.
Lifetime
in the Fells This longer article by Bert Morland is a
marvellous
read for any Fell Pony enthusiast and in particular for those involved
with the Lunesdale ponies. Many of Lunesdale's most breed-defining
ponies figure in Mercury's recent pedigree and are spoken of in this
memoir. Link opens in new window.
