Our Horses
We have had these dear friends with us through thick and thin. Josie and Jackson are both part of the family and regularly "used" and enjoyed, despite our focus on the fell ponies. They are our "good horses" whom we know inside and out and with whom we would never part :-)

Josie
Josie is a saddlebred/quarterhorse cross mare who is my dearest partner. Her breeding has produced a lovely warmblood-type conformation with big, expressive gaits. There is absolutely nothing that Josie is unwilling to do. She is a trail riding guru; jumping, swimming, and handling tough conditions with confidence and enthusiasm. Despite that her movement and build would lend themselves well to many English disciplines, Josie was originally trained western and is such a dream to neck rein that most of what we do is western in focus.

Jackson
Jackson is a registered with the Tennesee Walking Horse gelding. His registered name is Big Daddy John! We got a kick out of that when we went to view and then buy him. He has introduced us to showing--in North Carolina we participated in some very fun and quite successful TWH shows and though we have moved on to carriage driving at the moment, our fond first-show memories are with him. He has very smooth gaits to ride. Interestingly, we bought him in Minnesota, where gaited horses are uncommon, rather than North Carolina where Tennesee Walking horses are like the Quarter horses of Texas--quite ubiquitous! Jackson also drives--a common sight in our town is our flashy high-stepper put to our Doctor's Buggy. Jackson and the family are regular customers at our local Dairy Queen! He is also the sweetest horse--although he is nearly five now, we still think of him as "the baby." Our miniature horse "baby," Dorian, and he are the cutest pair in the pasture together, Jackson being our tallest and Dorian our smallest. Dorian is possibly the only horse Jackson has EVER been able to "boss around." Even Traveller (thirty inches tall) has Jackson right where he wants him (far away from the grain pans).
